Dave,

I understand your statement, but every day, there is not a balance here. The options MM's are required to make a market, and in so doing, they take a net long or short position on the instruments. My GUESS is that they offset this position with a concurrent long or short position in the actual security. Therefore, my assumption is also that the retail and/or commercial traders can be in the aggregate traced in terms of there net long or short position. If this is true, then it should give all of us little guys a sense of where the market is going. Just my 2 cents worth.
