I had a post on E-Trade not having credited my account with my PALM from the distribution. The shares finally showed up in my portfolio on August 4, but only after I e-mailed E-Trade and asked WTF.

So, did E-Trade give me my shares only because I asked to about them? Also, makes me wonder what they were doing with my shares between the 28th and when I actually got the shares on July 31. Interestingly, E-Trade credited my account with PALM at 39, since the issue had gone up in price. E-Trade said that PALM shares were distributed to all customers on July 31 and PALM was at $39 at the time. Makes me wonder what would have happened if the price had declined at that time. Also, I received all this information ONLY because I asked. Why didn't E-Trade tell me before or on the 28th how and when I would be credited with the PALM shares?

I had COMS on margin at the time, and at least E-Trade did not give me a margin call on the COMS decline post PALM distribution.

Seeing how E-Trade makes MILLIONS [$50m in 1999?] from market maker activity, I can just imagine the machinations E-Trade engaged in to maximize their profits on the COMS/PALM distribution.

I don't use E-Trade anymore because in my opinion I think they rip off customers any way they can. I only have my COMS [and now PALM] shares there, Because I'm long on COMS and PALM, parking the shares at E-Trade is handy considering I don't use the brokerage for anything. I don't even log onto E-Trade anymore :)
