Making 79% in a good year like 1999 is easy, but with some risk. How much risk the BARRON'S article doesn't say. Even in a poor year like this, one can use options and other investment strategies to increase the return on invested capital, but often the risks are unacceptable or simply irresponsible. If a person can consistently do about twice as well percentagewise as the overall market, and at only modest downside risk, then that is something to write home about.
