Thank-you for the snippets URLs. Looking through the 'safe' method code, I see that the approach is essentially creating a .BAT with SET command(s) and executing this .BAT file. This is the method I'm currently using and find so distasteful. Reading the 'info' files, I see the shortcoming belongs to DOS, which was inherited from UNIX, and not in my programming skills. I'll put the matter to rest, knowing that I haven't simply overlooked something stupid. Thank-you, PW. P.S. The 'snippet' link provides many lines of code I've struggled to create over the years. Could've just taken a peek and saved a ton of work. Didn't know!
