Politics is indeed a dirty business. It's often a silly one, too, and the credit/blame game is one of the silliest parts of it. Now we have the parties quarreling over who should get credit for the boom of the '90's, Clinton or Reagan/Bush, when the truth is that it has nothing to do with either of them. Nixon and Carter both took the blame for situations they inherited: Nixon got us out of Vietnam, not into it, and there was nothing Carter could have done to prevent the "loss" of Iran or Nicaragua, both situations which were way beyond reclamation by the time he took office.

Politicians are created by history as much as they create history.
