Cirrus,

<AMD could have already won back so much marketshare and mindshare with the Duron they lost when the K6-2 ran out of air>

Sigh.

<I think at least close to half the 7.2M "seventh-gen" processors sold in Q4 will be Durons. Certain people need to take this into consideration when they come up with ASP estimates for AMD...>

I am extremely fascinated by what can happen in Q4. AMD has completely replaced Intel at high-end. It is unclear if Willamette will be making any dent at the high end in time for the peak selling season. Also unknown is the number of Athlon/Duron laptop parts that will get sold in Q4. (given it is new infrastructure, I hate to even guess)

<Overclockers on the net have been able to get Durons from 800MHz to 900MHz by changing the multiplier and upping the voltage (which is low for Duron because of its MHz), so MHz should not be an issue for Duron. >

Yup!

<I guess Athlon binsplits will determine what MHz Durons will sell at. >

I don't think it has anything to do with Athlon bin-splits. Even without any private information it is clear that the bin splits for Thunderbird are not the limiting factor - power consumption, heat dissipation and motherboards are. Mustang should significantly alleviate one of the problems. Barring infrastructure problems we may see an extremely rapid ramp of Mhz in Q3/Q4.
