Upgrades come at or near a nearterm top. Downgrades come at or near a nearterm bottom.

This is precisely why I feel analysts are not helpful. I probably wouldn't even go so far as to label them contrarian indicators, because I have never found any consistency to their declarations. They're just...not helpful.

Today, Henry Blodgett from Merrill Lynch, perhaps the most influential internet analyst currently, finally issued a slew of downgrades for a variety of internet stocks - many of which have fallen 70-90% from their highs and are trading less than $5 a share.

Until today, Blodgett had BUY ratings on all of them!! Blodgett notes that "capital is drying up, Net stock picks are more centered around traditional factors such as valuation and analysis, and overall growth in the market is beginning to leave some companies behind."

One of the best analysts on Wall Street is just declaring this now? Now you see why I completely ignore analysts during my research.

Thanks for the prescient tip, Henry. I guess that's why you make the big bucks.
