Nigel - Another breakthrough discovery for Ariad. Just saw that as well in the online edition of Cell. Seems like every couple months the company displays a new and unexpected facet of the RAPID/ARGENT system. I applied the 'billion-dollar platform' moniker with due consideration. Many of the BT crowd on SI will not be attracted to this flavor of news release since the direct effect on the revenue stream for the company is not immediately apparent. OTOH, Ariad constantly forces folks to place their idealism out front - and place their lip service towards good science to the side. If investors truly believe that great science based on a 'killer app' is the essential 'bottom line' for wise BT investing, there are few companies that compare with Ariad for unlimited potential (I'm prepared for the, 'Yes, but...' response cascade. Like night follows day, it's highly predictable and was epitomized by the 'pump and dump' accusations of this spring. Perhaps it's more jealousy than acrimony since these same folks would simply die for an article by their company in ANY ONE of the journals Ariad has published in (Science, Cell, PNAS etc in the last 12 months). Yeah, yeah, I know - the bitter old man syndrome...) I'll try to read the article today.
