USB Piper Jaffray analyst Ashok Kumar downgraded the chipmaker to a "neutral" rating from a "buy." Kumar said, "sustainability of profitability is questionable with desktop growth rates moderating and looming oversupply of flash [memory]." He also said the company's Duron processor has largely missed the back-to-school season.

Meanwhile, Analyst Hans Mosesmann at Prudential Securities reiterated his "strong buy" on the stock, saying the recent selloff on concerns over supply/demand issues for flash products was not warranted. Regarding the Duron processor, Mosesmann said this was not news since the product only launched in June.
