It's always good to see how the world's largest corporations are using EMC to keep on being successful. GM is especially interesting because it has a major wireless data/telematics initiative in OnStar (potentially huge recurring revenue stream from subscriptions) and a major internet initiative focused on its supply line (B2B exchange with 30,000 suppliers and something like a $90-$120 billion annual procurement budget) and marketing/customer service (rich media-intensive).

GM's EMC installation comprises Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems equipped with EMC Connectrix fibre switches to store data from its open systems servers - including Hewlett-Packard, Sun, Compaq Windows NT, Silicon Graphics - and mainframe environment. GM also has deployed EMC's Celerra network-attached file servers and EMC's advanced software solutions and services - including EMC ControlCenter, EMC TimeFinder, Symmetrix Remote Disaster Recovery (SRDF), EDM, and EMC PowerPath - to continually improve the availability and manageability of its global information resources.
