That might be, although one could argue that the cultural power of religion makes it a rival to other worldviews, and that accounts for the preoccupation. Still, I find it odd that anyone should be militant against mere belief. For every Crusader there were a thousand nuns who educated poor children; for every crooked preacher, there were a thousand who helped people off the bottle, and reconciled families; for every Inquisitor, there were a thousand missionaries who brought medical attention and education to the wild places of the world.........
