Have you seen this? It's a Dataquest projection chart of server shipments used by Intel's chipset partner serverworks. inqst.com Page 4. It show no Itaniums systems in 2000, and about 100,000 systems in 2001. And even in 2003 about 5 or 6 times as many IA 32 servers are expected to ship as IA 64 servers.

Dear Elmer: Yes, but does in stock mean that I can go to IBM and have it ordered, shipped overnight and have it tomorrow? IBM claimed to have a part in stock that I needed for a project a while ago. However, it did not ship for 4 weeks because I "missed" the production run by a few days. That is not my idea of "in stock". "In stock" to me means, I can walk in with the means to pay for it, and walk out with the item. The definition of "in stock" is too highly abused. I have been burned by the wishy washy way too many retailers, distributors, and manufacturers who abuse the term beyond all recognition. Some think its in stock when the parts are sitting in a truck just leaving the overseas manufacturer's plant. It might take a month before you see your item. The pipeline at Dell is said to be 18 business days long. I have no idea what the pipeline length at IBM is for 1133 MHz P3 systems. There is at least two places that say I can have a 700 MHz Duron system in my hands today, if I am willing to pay the price (that goes without saying, but I seem to need to post with all the "eyes" dotted and the "tees" crossed). I can go the CompUSA or Best Buy here locally and walk out with an Athlon 1 GHz box, right now. Pete
