Ali, re:<AMD underestimating the difficulties of the Slot to Socket transition.> What kind of difficulties?
Nothing unusual, just long lead times to make changes to existing products of OEM's. Its also difficult to estimate how many "old" slotted products to produce while transitioning to the socketed parts, especially since 30-50% of AMD's output goes to SD shops. (my guess)

One issue which AMD seems to have done well with is to avoid the tendency for the old product (slotted CPU's, K6-2) to be devalued because consumers want the new stuff. At least we didn't see K6-2's selling for $40 and Slot-A CPU's dropping in price.

AMD made low-key intro's of the TBird and Duron so this wouldn't happen, but unfortunately it was so low key, that OEM's didn't see enough customer demand to want to embrace the brand new product, the Duron, immediately.

A final difficulty of the transition is the tendency of our mobo partners to try and recover their NRE in three months with high prices. There's not much you can do about that.
