The higher the inflation, the more worthless the IOUs to be redeemed at a later time by Social Security.

Economic historians will look back at 1993-2000 as the most successful economic period in this history of the country. They will applaud the tax increase in 1993 as a major factor in producing the surplus. The credit goes to Bob Reuben. I hope they remember the entire Republican Congress voted against this measure which was instrumental in producing low inflation, high growth, a budget surplus. On the other hand, if we squander the surplus with a tax cut at a time of unprecedented prosperity, economic historians will correctly point the finger of blame on the Republicans. The boomers have a lot at stake. If we get an inflationary tax cut, there social security will be jeopardized. People are not going to use the extra money to reduce debt. Common sense will tell you that.
