History has demonstrated that countries which fell to Communist takeover did not fare well. The plight of the people in South VietNam after the Communists took over was not as dire as Cambodia, but it was very dire. For that reason, I believe that intervention was well-intentioned. We believed, at the time, that the North VietNamese were acting as China's proxy in extending communism throughout Asia. Remember the Domino Theory? My understanding is that we were more or less right about that.

I believe there was an alternative to colonialism other than communism.
