disu,
Okay here goes, its a simple white bread, now we will play with the ingredients a little and see how it turns out okay?

White bread
5 3/4 to 6 1/4 cups of all purpose flour
1 package active dry yeast
2 cups milk
1/4 cup of apple juice or your favorite( original is for 2 Tbl. of sugar)
1 Tbl. shortening or margarine
1 tsp. salt( important for the yeast)

In a large mixing bowl combine 2 1/2 cups of the flour and the yeast. In a saucepan heat and stir milk, juice, shortening and salt until warm, be careful not to scald the milk, no boiling bubbles.
Add milk mixture to flour mixture, beat with mixer, and scrape down the sides of bowl.
Using a fork or spoon add as much of the remaining flour that you can while stiring.
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a somewhat stiff dough. Should be smooth and elastic in texture.
Shape into a ball, place in a lightly greased bowl, turn to grease all sides of dough.
Cover and let rise in a warm place. Should at least double in size.
Punch dough down(good for getting out frustrations)
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half, cover and let rise again for about 10 more minutes.
Lightly grease two 8x4x2 inch loaf pans. Shape each half into a loaf by patting or rolling into that shape.
Put loaf into pans cover and let rise in a warm place until almost double in size again.
Bake in 375 degree oven for about 40 minutes or until nice brown color. When pan is cool enough to touch but not completely cold, remove bread and finish cooling on a wire rack or dish. If you want to make a cut in the raw dough so that the loaf is scored, do so with a sharp knife before baking.

Now I'm sure you see why a bread machine is such a convenience to have. Good luck and I'm here for more recipes if you want them.
