As I remember it -- and I'm shooting from the hip here -- INTC had about 50% of the microprocessor market in the mid/late 1980's...and grew that to about 85-90% by the mid 1990's. Not sure if that technically qualifies them as having transformed themselves from a "king/prince" to a "gorilla" in G/K terms...but in practice...it seemed to more or less work out that way. And the lawsuits about IPR seemed to play a big role.
