Re: What Os were you running? Did you use the machine as a server?

Windows 2000, and we've been sticking with Microstar except for workstations (the Abit has 4 DIMM slots and accepts 512meg in each) and whatever Gateway is using (we've been ordering Gateways again now that they are offering W2K with DVD and CD writer).

One Abit system has 2 gigabytes of RAM in it - that has got to stress a system. It's been trouble free and sometimes runs overnight crunching data. We'd always favored Asus before, but started using Microstar since they seemed more committed to the Athlon platform. We've just been sampling Abit so far, and only for systems that require large memory configurations. So far both Microstar and Abit have been trouble free for us.

I get the impression that the industry's experience with Microstar and the leadership role that it played in establishing the slot A platform improved its position relative to the other motherboard makers. I wonder if bringing DDR to market will do the same for Iwill.

Dan
