re: Then we heard stories of a million stranded Slot A boards out there

I do believe that that amd promised to fill 1mil slot A boards at the announcement of new socket A. That is not something new and it is very reasonable.

I do not believe that classic athlons are in production, those stlot a chips are t-birds.

I still believe that the problem is in not in support - while there is no big difference in durons and t-bird performance duron may hurt amd strategy of moving to higher end. AMD is not going to admit it and they would rather look for any excuse to delay intro

-Albert

Hi Dan3; You have a pretty good understanding of benchmarking &c. What is your view on the effect of DDR on system performance for high end AMD and Intel processors, and multiprocessors?
