Siebel agreed to exchange up to 3.71 million shares for closely held OnLink, based in Redwood City, Calif. The company unveiled its eBusiness 2000 product line in April, which links customer relations functions performed over the Web and telephone with sales and service organizations. OnLink's products let companies tailor products for customers based on the guidelines they provide over the Internet. Siebel unveiled plans for the acquisition after the close of regular trading. The company's shares rose 56 cents to $164.19 and have climbed 95 percent this year. OnLink's investors include GE Equity, Sierra Ventures, Berkeley International Capital and Stanford University, according to the company's Web site. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of September. Siebel also plans to split its stock 2-for-1 on Sept. 8 for shareholders of record on Aug. 18, a spokesman said.
