Tokyo Electron Makes 32.7 Pct. of Its Q1 Sales in Taiwan
August 8, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Tokyo Electron Ltd. announced its consolidated results for the first quarter (April - June) of fiscal 2000 ending in March 2001.



Notably, about one-third of its sales were to Taiwan.

The major semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker recorded sales for the first quarter of 150.812 billion yen and net profit of 15.24 billion yen. It was the firm's first announcement of its quarterly results. (108.21 yen = US$1)

For the full year to March 2000 (April 1999 - March 2000), the firm posted sales of 440.728 billion yen and a net profit of 19.847 billion yen.

The net profit for the current quarter alone nearly reached the amount of net profit recorded for the full year till March 2000. The maker estimated net profit for the full year to March 2001 at 56 billion yen, 1.4 billion yen more than the figure announced in May.

Sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment were 127.798 billion yen, and accounted for 84 percent of the total Q1 sales. By region, Taiwan made up for 32.7 percent, Japan represented 21.6 percent, the United States accounted for 17 percent, Korea 14 percent, Europe 5.3 percent and other areas 9.1 percent.

Of the total sales of semiconductor equipment, sales of equipment for 300mm wafers were less than 10 percent, and most such equipment was shipped for use on testing lines, a company spokesperson said.
