This was exactly my point yesterday. I don't want to pay $25/month for wings nor Mot car radio. I rather have a PDA that will work in all environments. Maybe Ford can offer a free PDA with every car purchase. A PDA that can be plugged into a car system, a house system, an airport stand, a cafe in Paris, or work independently while sailing the west coast.

Ford a re-seller of the next generation of communication equipment?

QCOM, Toll Gate to 3G
Spinco, Engine to 3G

With the proliferation of wireless and internet based services, new regulations are going to maximize safety. All vehicles are going to be required to have on board wireless systems in order to prevent people from getting distracted as they dial a phone number as they are driving down the road. With new wireless e911 mandates for cell phones, you can bet your last dollar that wireless e911 will be mandated for cars too.

As far as the cost is concerned, universal wireless and intenet packages like Wireless Knowledge should reduce redundant billing accounts. As co's like VZ and PCS introduce wireless data services, consumers will be able to access their account from various wireless internet devices.

The cost of the new on board hardware is going to replace the cost of a radio. The CD radio player is going to be replaced with a much higher value added device like the ones being developed by QCOM and MOT.

It is about time that technology started migrating towards useful parts of the economy.
