Albright to Visit South America

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Madeleine Albright will visit
Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador next week, the State Department
announced Monday.

Spokesman Richard Boucher said Albright would make the trip between Aug.
15 and 19 after attending a meeting with North American Free Trade Area
(NAFTA) partners Mexico and Canada in New Mexico on Saturday and going to Los Angeles Sunday and
Monday to address the National Democratic Institute.

Boucher said that on the South American trip Albright would have meetings to talk about support for
democracy, economic reform and regional cooperation.

``There are a lot of things to discuss in this part of the world... I know that these are countries that she's wanted
to visit for quite some time,'' he added.

The spokesman said Albright would probably start the tour in Brazil and end in Ecuador, but the schedule could
change.
