Metals exchange sets date

The Intercontinental Exchange, the Atlanta-based exchange aiming to trade over-the-counter metals and energy derivatives and backed by some of the world's largest energy and investment banking groups, will start operations on August 24.

Jeffrey Sprecher, chief executive, said that in addition to the 13 founding members - who also hold equity in the exchange - he expected a number of other market participants to be connected to the electronic trading system by the time it goes live.

If the BOJ raises a quarter point on Friday, US stock market carnage should begin in earnest the following week. We'll have to see how the dollar (and by extension gold) handle that. (I've been keeping my eye on stocks and the dollar, rather than gold, because the dollar's strength against all currencies is enough to explain gold's weakness completely).
