There he is, flaunting his abuse of women right into the face of the leftist media elite. How dumb they all are...

Good lie for Prez: Clinton's golf game lacking approval rating

by Gerry Callahan
Friday, August 11, 2000

Bob Kerrey called him an unusually good liar, so we can only assume that the senator from Nebraska never played golf with William Jefferson Clinton. Our lame-duck leader may be an accomplished liar in matters of his marriage or his upbringing, but when he tees it up, he cheats almost as badly as he plays.

In case you missed it, Clinton made a pit stop over the weekend on Martha's Vineyard, which is actually a large-scale version of the Survivor island: A make-believe place full of phony, lying, backstabbing miscreants who love fame and money almost as much as themselves. It is a despicable little world that makes Clinton and his loathsome wife feel extraordinarily comfortable.

On the Vineyard, the Beautiful People cheer Clinton as he waddles to the ice cream store and they let him kiss their babies without any outward fear of infectious diseases. It is an island infested with shameless enablers, and each year about his time, Clinton brings three of them to Farm Neck Golf Club where he is allowed to satisfy at least two of his many obsessions: cheating and golf.

In preparation for a visit from the only president to be impeached in this century, the folks at Farm Neck typically clear out about five tee times before he begins play and five after he tees off. They say this is for security purposes, but the truth is it limits the witnesses. Even on an island full of shameless sycophants, there is always a chance that someone could sneak through security and tally up the mulligans at end of the day.

Which is what happened six years ago at Farm Neck. A TV camera peeked through the trees and caught Clinton as he lined up a three-foot putt and blew it past the whole. No big deal to a man who is supposed to be concentrating on matters more pressing than a short game, but we are talking about William Jefferson Clinton, a man to whom no lie is too small or insignificant.

So he lines up the putt again - and misses again. On the third try, he strokes into the heart of the cup, and what do you know, another par for Bubba. Nice putt, prez. You really got it going today.

He also was caught on camera taking mulligans off the tee and driving balls into the woods, but at the end of the day, he was asked his score and he gave a typical Clinton answer: 82. Most of the assembled world media jotted it down and threw it in the story as if it actually happened, so maybe we shouldn't blame Clinton for repeating the same fiction last weekend. He went back out to Farm Neck with Vernon Jordan and two other pathetic bootlickers and posted, you guessed it, another 82. After the round, he confessed to taking one mulligan, and we can only assume he meant per hole.

``They said I deserved it for Camp David,'' said Clinton, without adding what exactly he did at Camp David to deserve anything.

Maybe we're being too hard on the lying, cheating scoundrel. Maybe he's making progress. After all, a couple of years ago, on his first time out after about six months off, he said he broke 80 for the first time, a claim so preposterous that some of his supporters in the media even questioned it. He is not just a cheater, he is a greedy cheater. He shaves off 20 strokes instead of 3 or 4. He claims to have broken 80 when breaking 90 would be a stretch.

The man couldn't break 80 if Carly Simon was keeping the card and everyone knows it, but he somehow thinks we will be impressed. As a rule, he lies to protect his job or his marriage, but in this case, he just wants us to think he's a good golfer. How pathetic. Grantland Rice once said that 18 holes of golf will teach you more about a man than 18 years under a desk - I mean, across a desk. With Clinton, each year about this time, we learn that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing dishonestly, even golf.

Clinton actually claims to be a 10 handicap, and to that, we can only offer the same response Texas congressman Bill Archer gave the president a couple of years ago.

Where we playing, Mr. President? And how much we playing for?
