That is a good point - I'll look up the info. I know my article over-simplifies the dynamics behind industry pricing but I had to write the article, even if isn't as comprehensive as I'd like. The main reason why I wrote the article on the OPEC price-band mechanism is because I have found absolutely no research on the topic by any brokerage firms. Yes, it gets mentioned in reports frequently, but no one has analyzed what the future holds should the device prove successful.

I have access at work to real-time reports from most global firms, and even small O&G boutiques like Simmons & Co. No one has written anything substantial on the price-band. I guess everyone is taking a wait & see attitude, and considering OPEC's history of bickering amongst its members, they have a right to be skeptical. But as the months go by, if prices stay within the band then it will, to a significant degree, have to be factored into analyst crude oil price forecasts. The futures market is pricing it in out to 2005 but Wall Street is not.

regarding your other question, LB Capital is kind of just a hobby - the amount of money in it is insignificant. I can tell you more about it through outside email. you can email me at lbcapital@yahoo.com. Regrettably, I have lost your email which you gave to me a long time ago.

Do you know what the federal gasoline taxes are?

api.org

The federal gasoline tax rate is 18.4 cpg for gasoline and 24.4 cpg for diesel.

The Federal and State taxes are cummulative, thus must be added together in order to derive the total tax.

On top of this, some cities charge local excise taxes as discussed in the notes section from the link above (Note the State and local taxes for New York).
