Well, at the time, I might have been mistaken for a hippie. I had long hair, a beard, and a fondness for denim. I listened to Bob Dylan (still do) and the Grateful Dead (still do). I was active in the McGovern campaign. I was, in 72, much likelier than you to be jumped by rednecks. And I still think that the real hippies, the ones who spent most of their time doing drugs and being promiscuous, were spoiled bourgeois brats. I did at the time, too. A lot of people who were politically active at the time thought that real hippies were morons.......
