Samim, I knew about the patent rulings. While they reaffirmed Qualcomm's IPR position in W-CDMA, they don't mean that a wireless carrier implementing W-CDMA will have to pay anything to Qualcomm, at least not unless it gets into the W-CDMA handset/equipment manufacturing business itself, something that I really doubt DoCoMo will end up doing for a number of reasons. As I'm sure you know, Qualcomm's never charged a carrier anything (at least not directly) for operating a CDMA network.

Either the article I was commenting on misquoted Seybold, or else Seybold should really think twice about charging people money for his opinions on the wireless industry. Which of the two it is, I've got no idea.
