Wily, I read the white paper and I don't see any discussions of royalties at all. I wouldn't assume they don't pay royalties.

Look at the table on page 6, in the cost row, in the MMC column -- it says:

MMC cards have mid-level ASP's and incur some costs at the system level; no royalty fees
This is in direct contrast to the royaly comments regarding memory stick, for instance.

I thought cross-licensing was a cancelling of royalties due.(?)

They may be paying royalties but not necessarily on MMC.
