Hi Jeff,

1) Probably every short seller in the book has been talking about LU's balance sheet problems. (Check out Herb Greenberg on thestreet.com for his relentless discussion about this issue - way prior to recent LU problems). The DSA, the current ratio, collection efforts, are all part of
the balance sheet problem. (Besides their misgivings in the optical sector - i.e., product development.)

2) Here is what Hopkins is known for at Boeing (quick summary); the reason she is worth $4m instead of $30k!

"Hopkins was a key architect of Boeing's financial turnaround. She was widely credited with helping the aerospace giant rebound from a 1997 loss -- its first in 50 years.

In just 16 months at Boeing (NYSE:BA - news), she helped refocus management on the bottom line and oversaw sequential profits in 1998 and 1999.

Analysts expect Hopkins to help Lucent cut overhead costs, improve procurement procedures and implement major organisational changes in the coming months."
