Indeed. OTOH, though I'm only looking at 1999 and 2000 figures, these write-offs have leapt dramatically, 2000 numbers being multiples of 1999 figures. So CSCO has picked up the pace considerably...or is paying more for companies. Either way, it makes it harder for them to make their numbers with these huge write-offs each quarter now. If they didn't have the investment gains to counter these expenses the financials would look pretty bleak, short term.
