<productivity growth in Germany has outpaced US productivity growth by a good margin throughout the '90's. >

Makes common sense to me... you've got the U.S. workers putting in unreasonable hours for dirt pay vs nice bennies and high pay in Germany... to say nothing of the redundant workers over there. I can't imagine where anyone thinks more productivity is going to come from here in the U.S... everyone I know works too hard and doens't get paid enough! More likely what productivity really means is 3rd world prices on goods that the 'haves' buy while the 'havenots' compete with cheap foreign labor. The high dollar is the key to the whole pyramid.

What was really remarkable about that productivity growth chart is that the productivity growth avg over the last 10 years is LESS than it was in the 70's. Economic miracle?

I THINK NOT!!
