Mornin' Rose!

We've received calls like that from a place in Florida.

Wasn't me!

Hi rose,

I rented Boiler Room last week. After experiencing the crap that goes on on message boards, particularly the yahoo threads, I was not overly shocked at the tactics used by scam firms to screw the unsuspecting folks who don't have a clue about the reality if these money grubbers.

Too bad greed is an emotion that is easily preyed upon.

Hope all is well north of the border ;-)

Tim

Rosie:

A while back (2/12/00) I received a FAX from "Dr. Inu Zemede" of Lagos-Nigeria. The purport was that he represents a "clique of top officials of the Federal Government of Nigeria. . . We have secured from this cache the sum of Twenty One Million, Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand United States Dollars. . .It is in our quest to move these said sums overseas, we are soliciting your assistance to enable us transfer the funds into your account." For this service (sending them my bank account number, of course although that is not stated in the letter), I would receive 30% of the funds moved.

A fascinating one-page letter that I don't have the facilities to scan so you could read it all. At any rate, I had heard of this scam a couple of years previously. I immediately called a detective friend of mine (San Diego police) asking him if there were anything I could do to help stomp on such vermin. He asked me to FAX the letter to him and he would take care of things from there. I've heard nothing since.

Scams are interesting, I guess. The moral is that it does not pay go get greedy ("hogs get slaughtered, etc.")
