IT departments formerly MIS departments have been proponents of centralization from the very beginning.
To say that this is the dominant trend is to ignore the internet and the millions of non centralized users in the world.

You assert that Solaris 8.0 and Windows 2000 can not be compared for uptime and reliability. I say why not?
My understanding is that W2000 is a robust operating system with a host of back office services that are in wide spread use even now.

Moreover, we are talking about business conditions for the next few years and W2000 have to prove itself on enterprise servers. Solaris is an old mature operting system while W2000 is new. W2000 should get a nice boost with the P4 launch.
