The other side of that is that in the case of a diagnosed manic/depressive, Lithium does help them maintain and get along in a world where they couldn't manage before. I think that there are uses for some drugs for some types of behavior. My problem is giving drugs to children who have no choice in the situation and dooming them to a life of drugs because it's easier on the teachers.

There were difficult kids in my classes when I was growing up but ritalin wasn't around then. The amazing thing is: the teachers and parents managed anyhow. The kid that caused the most problems in grammer school (and would probably be put on drugs today) went on to become the student body president of ASU and is now a very successful defense attorney.
