TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC

... attended the Abiomed annual meeting ... [ABMD] ... this morning ... very impressive ... I mean VERY impressive

The large projected color image on the front wall that greeted us said, "Abiomed, Inc - Annual Meeting of Shareholders, August 9, 2000 - 'Life doesn't have to end when the heart stops.'"

I had previously met CFO John Thero, and think very highly of him, so he was a given ... however, I had not previously met Chairman, CEO and President David Lederman.

Lederman has a sincere, direct and natural style that screams 'high-level-of-personal-integrity.' He is obviously dedicated to his field of expertise and to his company and employees. He has a basic sense of decency that is so obvious and natural that my already high level of confidence soared even higher. After the formalities were complete, he made a presentation on the state-of-the-company while updating us on the status of the AbioCor. John Thero (the CFO) followed him with some comments, and then they both answered questions for a lengthy period.

Lederman indicated that the company was "getting pretty close" (to the beginning of clinical trials) and that he was very excited and a little nervous - who wouldn't be nervous when much of your life's work is about to be put to the ultimate test.

I am also excited and a little nervous ... I can hardly wait for the day when the whole world knows the names Abiomed and AbioCor ... maybe before Christmas (we will see)...
