When changing the chemistry changes the behavior in a significant number of people, you've got to begin thinking in terms of cause and effect.

Yes, but are they treating the underlying cause or are they treating the symptom?

My nephew has serious behaviorial issues, but I think that any doctor would be hard pressed to determine which had a greater impact on his behavior between his home environment and any chemical imbalance that he may have. I would go further to say that the mere diagnosis of ADHD exacerbates the behaviorial problems as there is now and excuse for the bad behavior.

I am not totally against taking drugs to compensate for neurological disorders. I do believe that there are cases where there is a true organic cause and since we are often the function of electro-chemical reactions, clearly drugs can help in some cases. However, I am against the blind drugging of children because it is too much effort to try and guide them toward a more constructive livelihood.
