>>>>peter, re 1.2GHz needed. I've had a sneaky feeling for the last week or so that AMD will announce 1.2 GHz Monday or so, but didn't want to reveal my
suspicions. The reason I thought that? -- the cagey pre-announcement of the 1.1 GHz. I mean why bother announcing that you'll announce something slower
than the competition?

They said they would announce 1.1 GHz; they didn't say that was all they would announce, did they?
<<<<

Well, from what I can remember, at the last CC, they said 1.1 this Q, higher speeds in Q4!

Petz, Re: They said they would announce 1.1 GHz; they didn't say that was all they would announce, did they?

They said something like "1.1 GHz this quarter with higher speeds following in Q4" in the CC, so don't expect too much. 1.1 GHz in volume next Monday is still good for me. (especially if 800 MHz becomes essentially the low-end and 1 GHz the mid-range after the price cuts)

John, the latest road map revealed by AMD is

1.1 GHz this quarter, (From CC)
1.2 & 1.3 GHz in Q4 (From CC)
1.4 & 1.5 GHz early 2001 (Rob Herb interview on Radio Wallstreet)
"up to 2.0 GHz" by mid 2001 (Rob Herb interview on Radio Wallstreet)
Over 2.0 GHz by Sledgehammer in second half 2001 (my guess only :)
K9 is well under way, 32 bit version (secret source)
