Your garden sounds like the one I used to have when I lived in Ontario.
Zucchini - miss one and all of a sudden it's two feet long.
Used to split them in two and feed em to the chickens.
That's when we were "making it on the land".

It's fun though isn't it - planting and harvesting a garden. Real sense of accomplishment. Forget the fact that you can get fresh veggies dirt cheap in the summer. That's not the point.
Its the sowing and the tending of the garden that makes it taste soooo good.
Congratulations on your first effort.
Next you'll be planting cucumbers and pickling your own dills.
There's no end to it Clappy. You've just begun my son.
