Jim-- Bilow has an interesting theory that the punishment for the RAMBo debacle has already been meted out to Pat Gelsinger (he's one of my three favorite execs, btw, next to Craig and Paul o).

Putting it into play wasn't the problem - that was a 1996/1997 decision.

Having NO BACKUP plan was the REAL problem - as well as sticking with RAMBUS for over 1 1/2 years beyond the point where RAMBUS benefits were difficult - if not impossible - to demonstrate - was the second problem.

However, Intel seems to have seen the error of its ways - the i815E looks like a life saver.

Now, if Intel can get SDRAM - and DDR SDRAM support for the Pentium 4 within 9 months, they will be on a fast track to recovery.
