I think that RAMBUS has to treat the different companies with a consistent policy. Besides royalties on the other SDRAM only begin at the end of March. The seem to be collected the back royalties over a 20 quarter period.

However, if NEC wants to go forward with RDRAM and the other high speed variants then there should be no real impediments to signing the SDRAM contracts now. These other royalties will pale in comparison and are almost a moot point.

It does sound like agreement is near if not in hand. This may solve NEC's competitive problem in the DRAM industry.
