Level Head,
Long time....

I too have characteristics that would be associated with ADD (my mother in law gave walked me through the test once). Like you, I never took any drugs to compensate for my attention span that rivals that of a gnat. And this too has helped me in my career. My communications are concise and I quickly move on to the next issue that needs to be resolved.

Now if I could just do something about this procrastination.
JXM

“ADD!” I said, waving my hands. “It’s only a flaw if you’re in a society of farmers!”

Level Head,

Thanks for your comments.

Someone posted to me recently that eventually we all may take on the characteristics of our SI monikers. If true, you are in for a better future than me. <g>

Hadn't thought of the agrarian versus hunter mentality in this context. But one of the issues that continually fascinates me is how we have striven so hard to create this modern, technology-driven, electronically connected society with astounding levels of wealth, and yet levels of personal unhappiness are reportedly at all time highs. It is this phenomenon, I think, which makes many nostalgic for a time they never even saw except as romanticized on TV: a simpler, agrarian life without the complications we battle daily.

ADD and ADHD probably fit in there someplace. Maybe it could be that those who can't sit still in the classroom at a young age would have not seemed "abnormal" in a farming or more traditional context. It may also be that the classrooms in which we cage the young are run in many cases by people who are incapable of providing the stimulation necessary to 25 or 30 kids of differing backgrounds and needs. Acting out is one perfectly logical response to that lack of stimulation, especially when many of the kids have more creativity, imagination and intellect than some of the teachers. (BTW, I have been happy with 75 percent of my kids' teachers so far, but I live in a district which attracts good teachers; the good ones I had as a kid numbered maybe a half dozen in 12 years).

I imagine JXM was a handful for his elementary school teachers. <g>
