Cypress Semi Surges After Cisco News

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Shares of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (CY.N) surged on Wednesday following the report Tuesday of strong results from computer networking company Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO.O), analysts said.

Cypress shares gained 3-9/16 to close at 35-9/16. Shares of Cisco, which Tuesday reported better than expected fourth quarter earnings, closed up 2-5/16 to 67-13/16.

While the strong Cisco results appeared to lift the entire semiconductor sector, analysts said Cypress got an extra boost because of an earlier forecast of a surge in business from Cisco.

Henry Voskoboynik, an analyst at Forum Capital Markets said Cypress earlier this year said it expected business from Cisco would increase ten-fold.
