I don't really think he means "no guides", but perhaps he is instead emphasizing to the interviewer the importance the cable guys place on that piece of real estate.

Well, it sure makes it difficult for anyone, in this case the cable guys, to negotiate from a point of weakness. And whether the cable guys are willing to admit it, they are sadly in such a predicament.

Regards,

Scott

I thought I'd add a bit of personal experience to the current discussion. I have regular cable at my home and it has the "scrolling" sort of guide. Within the last few weeks I have signed up for wireless dish service with DirectTV at a ranch (without access to either cable or regular broadcast). The set-top box is by Thompson, one of GMST's major partners, so I assume that the EPG is by GMST - and there is no comparison. It irritates me so much now to be stuck with the cable connection at my home that I am seriously considering going to dish service there as well. The point is that most people do not like their cable company (generally with considerable justification) and there is now an option. So, assuming the GMST patents "hold", I don't think that the cable guys can just blow off the GMST EPG without risking the loss of more of their market share than they have already lost to DirectTV and similar providers. This is just my opinion, of course.
