I think it is a testament to Gore's weakness that the race is even close.

Another testament to Gore's weakness, his running mate is running for Senate in parallel to running for V.P.

If Gore/Lieberman wins, this guarantees the Republicans will pick up one Senate seat since the Gov. of CT will appoint Lieberman's replacement ( if he wins that election too ) and he's a Republican.
