THE SCOOP: ABOUT NEIK: NORTHSTAR ELECTRONICS, Inc., develops, manufactures, and markets marine electronic
technologies. The markets for the Company's unique technologies and contracting services are the fishing, offshore
oil/gas, defense, marine transportation, oceanographic and environmental industries. Northstar manufactures the following
systems:

Defense Control Consoles:
Scientific Technologies, Inc. expects contracts from major prime contractors for the ‘build-to-print’ manufacturing of control
consoles for submarines, Navy frigates and helicopters.

Sonar Towed Array:
This unique technology targets Naval end-users.The offshore
petroleum industry uses similar arrays for seismic surveying and exploration.

The NETMIND™ System:
The NETMIND™ System monitors the underwater performance of a trawl. After $ 5 million spent on development, this
system established itself within the commercial fishery industry. The system consists of a group of electronic sensors that
transmit measurements from the net through the water to a receiver on a ship.

Northstar Systems
COMPETITION: The NETMIND™ System has two main competitors; Furuno in Japan and Scanmar in Norway. NETMIND
has price and technical advantages over each. For a typical system retail price is $34,000 compared with around
$52,000 for Furuno and $56,000 for Scanmar. Technically, NETMIND has
longer sensor battery life, longer operating distance, and better maintenance and repair features.

Since commercializing NETMIND, Northstar made many enhancements to the system. These activities have
resulted in an optimum design for which patent application is intended. The technology is difficult to replicate
because of its sophistication and, regardless of patent protection, it should take several years for a new player
to catch up to the present system. In the meantime, Northstar is developing new innovative NETMIND
products which should ensure a competitive edge.

FUTURE WIRELESS PRODUCTS: Northstar's second technology application will likely be for the multi-billion dollar
offshore oil and gas industry. One potential product is for the remote control of subsea wellheads. This is especially
important as the industry goes into deeper and deeper water to find and produce petroleum. Northstar intends to
aggressively seek companies with established reputations in the industry to be our Joint Venture partners.

ELECTRONIC CONTRACT MANUFACTURING: Northstar's second business division focuses on manufacturing
advanced electronic systems for the defense, transportation and communications industries in strategic alliance with
major international contractors. Several years ago, Northstar signed a Teaming Agreement with LOCKHEED MARTIN in
Los Angeles for the manufacture of consoles for submarines.
Northstar's first start-up contract was signed in April of 1997. In October 1999, Northstar secured a U.S. $2M
contract with LOCKHEED MARTIN to manufacture consoles for Canadian Navy submarines. Other work for patrol
frigates, destroyers and the Maritime Helicopter Project is expected to follow on from the submarine contracts. Northstar
plans to establish good relationships with other major defense and communications contractors in Canada and the United
States.

AREE - SSP, concerning yesterday's news for AREE, that dkgross posted here:

Message 14191619

would this be considered an impact date?

"The first product going to market is the SnowFang(TM) Snowshoes. Arete Outdoors plans to have the final version of the SnowFangs manufactured and available for delivery by September 15, 2000. Arete is distributing the SnowFangs Snowshoes through Jeff Lowe's Cloudwalker field sales team. Cloudwalker manufactures and distributes innovative climbing and mountaineering clothing and hardware, and will add the snowshoes to its presentations at technical retail outdoor and mountaineering shops in North America and Europe this fall."

I know the stock is well known around here but this is an impact date IMO. The company also plans more exposure of its products with another impact date in this paragraph:

"Production of the full-suspension, Dirt and Powder RUSH Downhiller(TM) is on schedule. It will be produced and assembled in Taiwan. A limited pre-production quantity will be delivered in September, with full-scale production starting thereafter for delivery in November, 2000. Arete Outdoors will focus its initial sales efforts on gaining mountain access at the ski resorts and placement at the mountain rental shops. Arete Outdoors is presenting the Rush to ski areas and resorts in the USA, Canada and Europe, and plans to present the products at the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Friederichshafen show in Europe, at the Interbike show in September, at several ski industry industry shows including the SIA Snowshow, and at the ski resorts and ski-patrol conventions, regional and national ski area shows."

The stock is up 39% today so far with more than 9M shares traded. I currently don't have a position in AREE and have to do more DD on it.
