wouldn't be surprised if jdsu+bce+nt would be huge proportion of canada's gdp?

According to SI The total market cap for the companies you mention is $332.92 bil. Canada's GDP is $607.744 bil. according to canadausinvestment.com
So the 3 companies market cap is over half that of Canada's GDP. I believe JDSU's HQ is in the US not in Canada.

Finland's GDP is $124 bil. and Nokia's market cap is bigger at $191.33 bil.
