Hi Frank,

Now about that ATM layer....

I've been reading quite a bit lately that the stack is going to be compressed and that for most of the glass guys, the notion will be to run IP apps on GbE and 10GbE networks, mapped onto SONET protocols (but not necessarily SONET gear) on top of WDM, with frame relay and ATM slowly fading from view. Maybe in the old world of copper loops there's hope for these older protocols, but I think their time has come and gone. Any comments?

I find Nolle to be a very fair commentator, FWIW. Heck, as I get smarter (well, to be modest, better informed), even I'm developing a bit of a Bellhead bias. Hehe.

Best, Ray

"And the numbers now point to ATM as being the dominant undercarriage for dsl's of all persuasions..."

Frank- Speaking of nethead vs bellhead(and I mean no disrespect to either), do you recall the period of time when a lot of the netheads came out of the woodwork proclaiming ATM was dead?

Today I don't ever read anything about re-cants of that old mantra so it makes me feel like it was a nightmare I used to have. I wasn't dreaming right? Two or three years ago, we used to hear that all the time, right?

That comment used to ratttle the heck out of the investment community and I consider it a shining example of the power of legacy anything. It's kind of what has gotten me into being a, "here and now," type technology investor. -MikeM(From Florida)
