Hi Monty-- Well, I have to admit, based on reading a bunch of studies on Brownian motion as applied to short-term stock-price movements, I had generally assumed TA to be trash. Although I can make an argument that this latest move is due to fundamental terror over Septium, Itanium, price wars, and dropping market share, I'm getting rather desperate at this point. Could you assign some sort of probabilities to a technical bounce? Or would a flight in terror and taking of profits be justifiable if stock fell to, say $55?

Monty,
Rather interesting that the 200 day SMA (We are below the 200 day EMA) is at 56.08 and a 50% retracement is right about 56 1/2...In other words AMD has arrived at an important line of defense.

To correct to the level where the NASDAQ corrected to earlier in the year (17% under the 200 day EMA) it would have to get to 50 1/2. If it goes below that then something is very wrong.

re: Now since we both know TA is meaningless I guess I will have to confess and tell you that I learned the "black arts" from an expert. :-))

who is the old master? :-))

let me see, how does it go with TA:

stock: from 90 to 70 / no news
ta: likely to reach 65
stock: 65 / no news
ta: 60
stock: 60 / no news
ta: 55
stock: 55 / no news
ta: 45
stock: ? / no news
ta: -10
stock: ? / no news

well, TA makes as much sense as chain letters.....
take a look at: investtech.com (thank you, Andreas) and then try to go through various stocks and see how often you win or loose on buy signals. Do I need to say more?

Regards
-Albert

ps ta became popular to a degree that in short term for some special cases it is self-fulfilling prophecy.....
