Actually, the 'kicker' was this:

The anesthetic shut down part, but not all of your brain. The rest was still functioning, and lacking external input (which was shut down by that anesthetic) made it up. In other words, you <dreamed, hallucinated, pick your word> that you were outside your body watching the surgery.

...where you juxtaposed 'your brain' and 'you'. My assertion is that there is a big difference between the two, yours appears to be that the words can be interchanged.

General George S. Patton knew he had been in battle centuries ago, and recalled events and places from prior lifetimes. To me, there's a very simple explanation for that.
